Our first So Cal trip of the season took place the first week of July, and who better against than the Angels! The Freeway Series is always a highly anticipated occasion every season; it's always fun seeing who will end up winning more games!
Our first takeover of the weekend was on Friday, July 6th. Before the game we held our pre-game party with AM 570 at the Golden Road Brewery right across the street from the stadium. The outcome was great! There was so many people inside it was hard to even walk around. AM 570 hosted the party, and Orel Hershiser made a guest appearance which kept things very lively! Once the clock hit 5:45, we announced our 50/50 raffle winner and started getting ready to march over to the stadium.
I stated in a previous blog that marching over to the opposing team's stadium is something I always look forward to, but it's so much more fun when it's a big rival's stadium, such as the Giants, and of course, the Angels! As we got closer to the main entrance under the two giant Angel hats, we could see all the Angel fans in line turning back to see our group and other Dodger fans joining in the chant!
Once we were in the stadium, we all did our own thing until game time. Some of us when up to the top level to get a picture of the stadium; I and a few others when to get some food and walk around the stadium. Our seats were in the sun and we weren't going to go sit in them until we had to at game time. Did I mention the high was 116 degrees that day?! Thankfully by the time the game had started it had went down a little, I think it was in the high 90's.
Regardless of the heat, once game time rolled around we made our way to our seats and enjoyed a very close game!
It ending up being a heartbreaking one for us, as we gave up the lead in the bottom of the 9th, and the Angels won on a walk-off.
Despite the loss, we got to see a win the following day; and with the Angels playing in Los Angeles the following weekend, the overall Freeway Series games ended up in a tie, 3 won by the Angels and 3 won by the Dodgers.
I guess we'll have to wait till next year to earn those bragging rights!
